Soil and Stain Removal

Most carpet stains actually have a relationship to soil from foot traffic.  For example, spills from soft drinks or coffee, even when blotted up immediately normally leave a sticky sugar residue behind.  This residue is like glue which attracts dirt from normal everyday foot traffic and the spot becomes darker.  Many times this is what is described as a stain.

Sometimes our efforts to clean up spills results in the same sticky situation.  For example, when we use detergent to clean a spill and do not rinse the spill area with sufficient water, the same sticky, glue like residue can be left behind.  Again, this results in what appears to be a stain.  This type of soiling  responds well to cleaning.  However, if left unattended for an extended amount of time the spot can become an irremovable permanent stain.

Carpet Cleaning Rocky Mount – Emergency Solutions

White paper towels

Mix 1/4 teaspoon (no more) of dishwashing detergent with 32 ounces of water.  Dawn, Joy liquid, or Ivory will work. Make sure not to use anything with bleach in it.

Apply this detergent solution with the following technique to the listed spills:

Remove as much of food spills as possible.  Scrape the carpet gently with a spoon or a dull knife. Quickly absorb wet spills by blotting repeatedly with white paper towels. Avoid aggressive, abrasive rubbing , instead make sure to blot.  This will prevent creating  a fuzzy area in the carpet. While blotting, work from the outer edge toward the center to contain the spill. Rinse and blot the cleaned spill area with water to remove detergent residue that may become sticky and cause rapid re-soiling. Absorb any remaining moisture by placing several layers of white towels over the spot and weighing them down with a heavy object.  A clear dish or books will work as weight.  This will absorb more residue as the carpet dries.

Vinegar solution for Carpet Cleaning Rocky Mount

Mix equal parts of vinegar and water. (1 part white vinegar to 1 part water)

Blot up as much as possible with white paper towels. Then apply the vinegar and water solution. Finally, clean the affected area with the detergent solution mixture (see above).  Rinse with clear water, blot and dry.
